Pasta in white sauce is a delicious creamy pasta recipe. White sauce pasta is a traditional Italian dish which is popular in India too. The sauce is prepared with butter, milk, flour, cheese and then flavored with Italian herbs like oregano, chilli flakes etc.

White sauce pasta is creamy and smooth with mild spices in it. It is very easy to prepare and the most popular too. White sauce is called as béchamel sauce which was originated from Italian cuisines. This sauce can be used to make many interesting recipes.

White sauce is prepared using butter, milk and flour. You can also use cheese and make it richer and yummy. Traditionally loads of butter and cheese was used in the preparation of the sauce. However, you can cut down the quantity of butter or use olive oil instead. You can also omit cheese.

White sauce is seasoned with spices like oregano, chilli flakes and pepper.  The sauce is smooth, silky and rich in flavors. Kids will definitely love this recipe for its appealing color, flavor and taste.

Any kind of pasta like penne, macaroni, spaghetti etc. can be used. You can also use veggies of your choice. Sautéed veggies are tossed in white sauce and then cooked pasta is combined with it. White sauce pasta tastes good when served hot.

You may also like: masala veg pasta, red sauce pasta, cheese burger, aloo tikki burger, garlic cheese toast, cheesy sandwich, mayo veg sandwich, veg cheese pizza, bread pizza, paneer tikka pizza, tawa pizza.

(1cup=250ml)

Ingredients:

For white sauce:

2 tbsp butter, replace it with olive oil too

3-4 garlic cloves, crushed

1 cup full fat milk

1 tbsp maida

½ tsp whole pepper, crushed

½ tsp red chilli flakes

½ tsp oregano/mixed herbs

Salt, pinch

To cook pasta:

1 cup penne pasta/ or any variety of pasta

Water, as needed to cook pasta

1 tsp oil

Salt

Others:

2 tbsp butter

3-4 garlic cloves, crushed

1 onion, chopped

1 capsicum, chopped

2 tbsp green peas, boiled

½ tsp red chilli flakes

½ tsp oregano or mixed herbs

½ tsp whole pepper, crushed

Cheese, as needed

Salt

Water

Method:

  • In a sauce pan, add water and bring it to boil. Add penne pasta along with salt and oil. Let the pasta cook completely, but do not overcook and make it mushy. Once done, using a colander drain water from the pasta and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan and add butter. Add crushed garlic and fry for few seconds. Also add maida/all-purpose flour and fry for a minute.
  • Keep the flame on medium-low and add milk little by little and stir well. Let it come to a boil. Now using a whisk, keep mixing it without forming any lumps to get a thick sauce. You can add cheese at this stage if you wish.
  • Season the white sauce with crushed pepper, red chilli flakes, oregano/mixed herbs and salt. mix everything well and set aside.
  • Heat a pan adding butter. Add crushed garlic and fry for few seconds. Add chopped onions and fry till it turns pink.
  • Add chopped carrots, capsicums, boiled peas etc. and sauté well till veggies are cooked. Add white sauce to the veggies and mix. You can add little water if the sauce is thick.
  • Now add cooked pasta and mix well with the sauce and veggies. Check for salt and add if required. Sprinkle crushed pepper, red chilli flakes, oregano and grated cheese. Transfer white sauce pasta to a serving bowl.
  • Serve hot White Sauce pasta.

Note:

  • You can use macaroni, spaghetti, penne pasta etc. to prepare white sauce pasta.
  • Use full fat milk for more tasty and thick sauce.
  • You can substitute milk with almond milk and butter with olive oil too.
  • Any vegetable of your choice can be used in the recipe.
  • If you feel the sauce is thick, add few tablespoon of water and bring it to the right consistency.
  • You can add grated cheese as required.
